I don't agree. One engineering company I worked for couldn't have cared less about their professionals and treated them like crap. The market for engineers was down at the time and they felt they owned your soul, and you couldn't do a thing about it. WRONG! I lined up a job with 50% more money plus great job security overseas. It was the best day of my life when I told my former employer to take their job and shove it. I still get tingles when i remember how their collective jaws dropped.

Forget about showing gratitude, just resign like what Richard Nixon did.

F_ you, f_ you, you're cool, f_ you...
Just kidding. I would never do this unless everyone in my company was being hauled off to jail.
My boss treats me fairly and with respect, the professional thing to do is say 'this is in the best interests of my career' and offer to train a replacement. I would never hire anyone who wants to give the finger on the way out.

BEST THING TO SAY IF YOU ARE ASKED WHY YOU ARE LEAVING IS TO SAY, " I AM JUST MOVING ON." IF THEY ASK ANOTHER SIMILAR QUESTION REPLY WITH THE SAME ANSWER BUT NOT IN A HARSH WAY. CLEAN YOUR AREA, DO NOT ACCEPT LUNCHES (POSSIBLE SPY). LIMIT YOUR INTERACACTION WITH YOUR CO-WORKERS DURING YOUR RESIGNATION PERIOD. STRICKLY BUSINESS.

How immature and stupid, workplace politics are, how a previous so called workplace friend would diss you for leaving an organization that would probably care less about them. People are so desperate to feel that they belong to something larger than themselves.

Just quit my job to start a new better paying one after 9 years & not getting a promotion I more than deserved.
I sent a 2 sentence resignation email simply saying I was resigning, and what the effective date was. The fact that it was that nice, considering what they deserved to have said to them was a testament to me.
The only reason I didn't leave their telling ppl what I really thought of them is cuz I didn't want to burn bridges since I may be able to come back running things in the future
