@leewatcher completely for if this happens get a replacement
-
@pcwizard7Tech Thanks, and when you say stop working, do you mean completely or for a period of time?
-
@leewatcher I use this router and its the best i had so far and is very popular its been around for years, only problem with is if your house is hit with power surge the lan and wireless can stop working so i would plug it into a board with surge protection but u can get a replacement asap if need be
its a very nice Router and lat FW is 1.06f.dc1

I just bought one of these and waiting for it to be delivered, I know that this router requires an update for it to operate, as the version it comes with supposedly doesn't allow some adsl services and is problematic. Something like that, wasn't sure if I was going to use the newest or go back one version.

@leewatcher yes y do u ask?
-
Is the most up to date firmware for this router stable?
-
@Alooy10q8 Being as the wndr4000 doesn't have an ADSL2+ modem then its not a comparable product. And the reviews for it like all Netgear routers recently are not too good. Netgear need to get their act together as people like me who have always used them before because they were the best are now looking elsewhere.

thumbs up.. or not if you think netgear is SHITE
-
this router is great but not as the NETGEAR N750 wndr4000
best router i have ever used its better than the linksys e4200 and the D-link xtreme n gaming and the D-link duo media.. :) try it its 100$ but its the best!!

@PCWizard7 I ended up buying the Billion BiPac 7402nx 3g/DSL firewall router. :)
I will say this Billion really should update the box with all the new features the firmwares has given. Billion really do make the best routers

Can you VPN in to your home network with that?
ecotts 8 months ago

@PCWizard7 Thanks for you response, have you managed to set it up the VPN yet, if so what client software are you using on your remote PC and are you using encryption to protect your VPN connection?
ecotts 8 months ago
@ecotts Assuming you are using Windows you can just use the built in VPN software client. Go to Network Connections and choose the option to connect to a VPN network (i cant remember the exact name of the options). Follow the wizard to set it up. Windows Help has a guide.
On Ubuntu Linux, make sure you have PPTP client installed, then just set up the VPN in Network Manager.
Yes, it's encrypted, however very important to have a strong password.
