Dr. Monique Roy, professor in the Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, discusses her study identifying high caloric and sodium intakes as risk factors for the progression of retinal disease among African Americans with Type I diabetes. Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness among 20- to 64-year-olds with diabetes. Her findings appeared in January's Archives of Ophthalmology.
