@madgoldnz You don't have to be sry or anything, I am just posting my experiences....I would still say that with the right tires the 4WDing is better on new ones with my experience, but this is just my thought :P
As for engines, I know a guy who bought a V8 cruiser and the motor shit itself. And I have a 1990 dbl cab 4WD hilux sitting in the yard that has 450000 KMs on the clock, has had a tough life carting trailerloads of seedlings uphill in Otago, and has it missed a beat? No. although it is well overdue for a new clutch.
Sorry mate but I completely disagree.New ones are better on road, and yes better motors but the new flash look bodies are a piece of s**t. Too long. It comes down to what you call 4WDing .For light 4WDing yes the newer are better, more powerful, comfortable, you're bang on the money there. But when it comes to exploring the high country in Otago, through swampy soupey bog holes and driving over and around ruts almost 1 meter deep, the new flash machines just don't cut it.
@bigchromeclipmaster Totally agree. The new Hiluxes are not worthy of having the Hilux brandname stamped on them. No good for real 4wding, and they are nowhere near as reliable as the old 2.8 or the standard old bodied 3 litre.
@distook The new ones aint, the ones with the old bodies are the real Hiluxes of the Southern Man. New ones are just poofmobiles aimed at Aucklanders. Even the latest landcruisers (apart from the oldstyle single cabs) are crap.
thats way not the tacoma ,, in mexico we have both and in fact the tacoma is a little bit bigger and way more faster than the hilux , ,, and better built

@madgoldnz wtf are u talking about?, the new ones are better. I've had real experiences with both new and old hiluxes and land cruisers.
1)The new ones are way better at 4wding and there engine is capable of revving to the max and getting no damage at all
2)The land cruiser is the best off-road capable vehicle. Hilux is the best pickup.

no way.they get softend up every year.
the Landrover Defender stays, but the Hilux changes.
We drive a 2001 Hilux, and its way softer then the 98 one.
the new one even look worse and are softer,too...
