Flash Haka @ Sylvia Park, 4.Sept.11

I was lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time. We were on our way home when something odd was happening. This group was doing a Flash Mob - like Haka at Sylvia Park.

CenaTV2 - Please notice that not one person present when this Haka was performed made any kind of protest against it. In fact, the response to it was one of approval and pride. Maori culture is an integral part of New Zealand society. Do some research and you will see that every unit of the New Zealand military has a unit Haka. Not because it is "Barbaric" but because it shows pride in New Zealand.

I wish my country (USA) had respected Native American culture like New Zealand did the Maori.

The haka is about a common tupuna (ancestor) of all Maori and the mighty feats that he did. His name is Maui Potiki

The haka we performed was written by Ngapo Wehi over 10 years ago. His son Tapeta Wehi taught us it while we were in training for the Opening Ceremony of the Rugby World Cup. After our first week of training we had a free day to do what we wanted. This is what the 50 of us come up with ;)

its not a common haka their a kapahaka group or sometime of roopu that made this haka themselves.
