This is Disco, our eight-month old parakeet. We've had him for three months, and he seems to love learning new things to say and new sounds to make. I admit this is poor video quality; it was a quick and fun job. Disco has his own Facebook page - Disco the Parakeet.

  • we have had over 40 budgies and only one talked ... then our African Grey killed him ... it was HORRIBLE ... I have a friendly male who is about 1 and a half but he doesn't talk... :( DISKO IS AWESIME, though ... my mom and I love love love your videos. Thank you!

  • @JaqRoxMusic - Oh my goodness, your AG killed him? Poor thing - I am sure that was hard, especially since you must love your Grey, yet be angry about that. I am so glad you all love the Disco videos - we will keep making them as long as Disco agrees!

  • Sukkubine, I hear you - it is sad when people get a pet of any kind and then don't live up to the responsibility, and a huge part of that responsibility is being a companion to that pet, loving it, caring for it, making sure it has plenty of things to do that IT likes to do. We debated long and hard about a second pet (we have a cat), and one that requires so much interaction. However, I am home (stay-at-home parent), we have a very animated 8-year old, and my husband dotes on Disco, too!

  • hahaha meow meeow !

  • @Sukkubine Thanks bollocks. I have two budgies and they both talk.

  • @Sukkubine Birds are skittish prey animals in the wild, so they don't usually "try to make friends". In captivity, once you earn their trust, they view their human companions as equals and members of their "flock". Unhappy and distrusting birds don't act cute. They scream, bite and pluck their feathers. Birds can be happy in captivity as long as they are fed a healthy diet, well groomed, and well loved. :) This video is actually really happy because it shows the bird is treated well.

  • @xoxoDayDreamingxoxo but as long as a bird has bird friends or lives in a swarm like budgies would normally do, they wouldn't have any reason to learn and imitate the human language. so a bird, that has no bird-friends tries to make the human his friend by imitating him.

  • @Sukkubine You have to work with parrots to get them to talk. Lonely birds never get any attention, which usually means they aren't around people much, so they can't learn words and don't have many sounds to mimic. There's sooooo many "teach your bird to talk" programs out there that wouldn't exist if birds learned to talk when left alone for a while.

  • What a great bird :)

  • Disco is so cute!
