if i'm not mistaken this was actually the exact gig where ashcroft opened for them with what was to be 6 songs off of urban hymns I was lucky enough to attend this gig. it was fantastic, ashcroft walks out to roars of applause and tells everyone to shut up cause they don't know who he is, if they did the verve would be a big band america, says noel and liam will be out shortly. it was fucking great.

Like "Bombshell1990" says... it wasn'r written for Ashcroft, it was dedicated to him. Because the Verve dedicated a song to Oasis. So Noel dedicated this to Richard at the time the Verve split for the first time.
