On May 24, 2001, Italian Ambassador to the United States Giulio Terzi di Sant'Agata hosted the opening of the exhibit "Painting from the Accademia Carrara," open to the public from May 25, 2011, to April 12, 2012, at the Chancery of the Embassy of Italy in Washington DC.
The exhibit falls under the program of events to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Italy's unification and enriches the reflection on the national and local fabric of our culture," reminds Ambassador Terzi. "When art comes to institutional sites, it creates identity and a sense of belonging," says Ambassador Terzi. "This is certainly the case in this priceless exhibit of paintings from the Accademia Carrara at the Embassy of Italy in the United States. A way to attract due attention to Italian genius and continue the dialogue between the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo and the National Gallery of Art in Washington."
The collaboration between the Embassy of Italy and the two prestigious museums have given way to an unprecedented exhibition. Curated by Renato Miracco, the Embassy's Cultural Attaché and M. Cristina Rodeschini, Director of the Accademia Carrara and of the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, the exhibit spotlights a selection of artists from different periods, including Antonio Mancini (late 1800), Francesco Paglia (late 1600) and Luigi Deleidi (late 1700).
