Even if the avatar is probably the best closecombat model, you shouldn't use him against ork bosses...they are probably the only thing I never want to charge with him.

Warbosses, in my limited experience, have never given me too much trouble. Assuming you charge you've got 5 I6 S6 WS10 attacks that ignore armour which are probably going to do a few wounds. Even if the he survives you have a 4+ save against the Power klaw so you will probably win.

Though my experience against Orks is limited as nobody around here plays them. There is the obvious luck factor that means anything can happen, such as my Gaunt killing an Avatar in CC in the turn it was charged!

Yes, though it does of course depend on your play style and what the rest of your army consists of. Personally I prefer 2 Autarchs since it gives me more flexability with my Reserves and they're cheaper in both points and to buy.

It also depends on the size of the games you tend to play. In smaller games the Avatar is absolutley immensce and in 750 points and under I would almost consider it a must have.

the greyknight make your re-roll their successful invul saves, because he is a daemon, and are instant kill, but they have to make a psyhic test, so bring a farseer with runes of warding.

@Link12ize But but but...Enhance can only be cast on the Warlock's own squad (which can't include an Avatar, of course), unless I'm missing something.

Regarding force weapons: I don't think they cancel an invulnerable save (except maybe the Grey Knights ones).

I enjoy putting him ith a farseer as 2nd hq and casting fortune from farseer and enhance from warlock. With this combenation he is a thug on the battle field and frustating to bring down. ^_^

@puukko15 I don't like to disappoint you, but besides his 4+ invul save, NONE of the usual Demon-rules apply.

He is NOT an eternal warrior and he CAN'T deepstrike! (looked it up in several forums)

The part about the avatar that makes him so strong is the fact that he is a DAEMON!!!

This means that he has to always deep strike!!! Which means that you don't have to worry

about getting there which boosts his strength in apocalypse and large or normal games.

He is also an Eternal warrior! I am even including him in a 500 point force!

So to anybody who is pondering whether to get one I highly recommend him. Also if you play

apocalypse then he can be part of the phoenix court of khaine!

@CrypTiKxCrash I don't meant the waaagh boss... I meant the "normal" bosses with energyclaws/fists, you can havealot of them and the avatar is much better against S4 enemies. But I think almost a year went by since I commented...now I am sure there are more powerful closecombat units than the avatar (but it is still the coolest ;) ).
