@California9 Someone took a video actually! search united 747-400 sjc and it should come up as a vid from yesterday

@EastAsiandictator i think you know this but American used to fly 777's to Tokyo until 2006. 747's are extremely hard on SJC airport though, since it's taxiways weren't designed far apart enough. Runways are fine. Taxiing on runway...I wonder if SJC will be able to handle the 787. It should. A 777 has a wingspan of 200 ft. A 787 just 170 ft. And I hope airlines will begin flying the a380 out of SFO...

@California9 I don't think it's just the runway an airport needs to take into consideration when accommodating aircraft. The taxiways are too close together to handle to wingspan of a 747; just like you saw on the vid, it has to taxi on a runway. Also, the gates aren't really big enough. If you see, the only reason this fit was because the two adjacent gates, one on either side, were empty.

@natbrain There are still 747's flying to San Jose but they don't come often. They are also 747-200's carrying Fry's Electronics things so they're not that special.

Did you not watch the video? According to wikipedia the only runway in the SF Bay Area thats longer than the two at SJC is just one of SFO's 4, by a mere 870ft
