During the oil crisis in the 1970's USSR satelite states were safe from the high energy prices because the USSR provided them with cheap oil and they were not at the mercy of the OPEC nations, Yugoslavia which was not sided with the USSR went into HUGE debt keeping up with the rising oil prices, this ruined the old Yugoslav economy, created hyperinflation and unemployment, which led to civil war and the rest.
