East Berlin Story ( Your Sole Existence)

I honestly believe people of East Berlin and DDR in fact had good socialist values. Many still claim even today that life was much better in socialism. Can't argue with that. I can only confirm it as a fact ; )
But this song doesn't deal with such values unfortunately.
I wrote East Berlin Story after doing extensive reading on Berlin wall.
There was nothing "social" in it. I just can't comprehend the so called socialist governments who could ever come up with such a plan.
This was the utmost perversion of a socialist system gone bad and rotten.

Power to the working men and women, equality for all. This is what I get from reading the communist manifesto. To exploit such a wonderful idea to such extent as building a wall that separates people is madness.

Sometimes I try to imagine how it felt for those people. Just imagine it, having a wall that separates you from friends and families. Getting across will get you shot.. horrible story.
We, true socialists, must be smart enough and discards these deviations if we ever want to clear the name socialism and bring back the dignity to the red banner.

As for the song, I wrote it from a fictional couple perspective, separated by the wall. To live in a city where people are physically divided causes trauma to every freedom loving human being.
But he (or she) holds on and keeps struggling because is aware that his/her loved one is indeed still out there. Somewhere over the wall.
Your "Sole Existence" keeps me alive just sounded somewhat powerful so I've built on that : )
Another thing, the song never reveals exactly who is on which side. Just as the main point I try to get across. I don't blame west or east Germany for what happened.
I'd love to say that we learned a lesson here, but there are still many walls around the world. All of which must come down !

I've been to east berlin and talked to elderly people 9 out of 10 said they are like DDR much better than today. I asked a lady to give me an example she said for starters we all had work, and secondly one could leave the purse on a subway and no one would take it
