"Kabukicho 'Shinjuku Golden-gai' 歌舞伎町新宿ゴールデン街" (100116-2000)

Wandering around in the mysterious "Golden-gai" area of Kabukicho in Shinjuku. This used to be just a cheap drinking area comprised of a collection of small wooden buildings, but it's becoming a bit of a tourist attraction as it seems very much from a different era. Walking through on a Saturday night at 8:00 p.m., I got the feeling that business isn't so good - many of the shops were empty and most of the people I saw walking through were just sight-seeing a funky old area, and not going into any of the drinking establishments. On the other hand - 8:00 p.m. may be way too early for this area. It's probably busier around 10:00 and 11:00 p.m.

Spent many an hour in the Golden Gai... Mainly in ACES and the Lucky Coin karaoke bar as its 500 Yen per drink. And after going so often theres a few familiar faces. The staff change quite often in the Lucky Coin.

Also several of the bars around the Golden Gai wont welcome any non-Japanese. I reccomend ACES Music salon on the first street if you want a beer and a friendly bunch to drink with. You may even bump into me and my friend if so dont be shy get the shots in!
