Mpls. Bridge Plates Bent 4 Years Before Collapse

Some old photos of the Interstate 35W bridge show two gusset plates were visibly bent as early as 2003 four years before the span collapsed into the Mississippi River, killing 13 people. (March 23)

Those thin gusset plates should have been repaired but gawd, who puts 200 tons of construction material on a bridge????

This video pretty much says the bridge collapsed due to intentional actions by the government that overloaded the bridge. In other words, it wasn't a freak event, it wasn't an act of nature. It was a predictable result of accumulated overloading.
