My friend fixed a rrod by just taking of the heatsinks from CPU and GPU, powering up the system, let it run till overheating failsafe turns it off. Then he just put the heatsinks back on, powered up and ... it worked just fine :)
The idea is that rrod happens when the CPU or GPU is detached from the mobo because of heat melting the soldering. By overheating the CPU and GPU one can be re-solder these chips back into the mobo.
