I was going to also comment on the dyeing of the belt..But kcatto12 beat me too it...Another idea though,would be to buy the Finish to coat the belt with after the stain...It'll help to keep the belt from weathering like it appears that your belt has already started to do..

if you wet the leather before you put the dye on the leather it will use less ans go on much more evenly...

Im glad I found your video, I too have a department store belt and am having issues with the belt not supporting my CCW. Your outside the box thinking got me thinking. I think you have a nice idea but I'm not sure you belt is strong enough. I see in your video the belt, while stronger that the bonded leather, still gives a bit too much. That's when I thought of tool belts. Home depot sells a leather "tool" belt, natural color, but it has the buckle, and is reinforced with rivets, and is for hau

Really helpful video. I need a gun belt and to open carry my 45 Ruger Blackhawk and the one I'm using currently is a 5.11 Tatical belt and the weight of the gun loosens the friction lock on it.

I noticed you did not dye the inside of the brown belt, why is that?

Thanks for these videos! I'm looking to buy a colt single action army and I need a nice belt...but everything is so expensive for a beginning shooter!! Anyway, I can't believe how simple this is. Any advice on tooling the belt and designing it?

Thanks for makeing these videos and talking about your grandfathers belt. I was looking to make a belt because my skin breaks out when it stays in contact with stainless, zink, and pewter maybe more. But when you talked about your grandfathers belt I remembered my grandfather also gave me his belt when I was 6 or so years of age, and guess what its 100% brass! Its also all I was looking for in a belt and more. Now I have a belt wewt thanks again -Vincent

With that type of dye your going to have stained pants, and if you get wet or sweat your gonna be in for some nice black and brown tie-die shirts and jeans.... Should not have used a water based leather dye for this application. but considering today is 2/15/2011 I'm willing to bet you already know this... By the way a gun belt needs to be ridged. One layer of say 8oz cowhide is not ridged, unless maybe if your packing a pea shooter...
