A cursory review of the S&W 916A 12ga. Shotgun. ANY information of ANY type that you could share with me about these shotguns would be greatly appreciated.

  • I bought one of these from my local gunshow for $115 despite what ive read about them...iam very impressed by this thing,it cycles more smooth then a mossberg, never had any ejection problems besides almost breaking a lamp because i pumped a full shell to fast lol,the tube is raw on mine do to the one arm...i have the 5 shot tube with the gigantic 28 1/2" ? barrel wich i had chopped down to a perfect home defense size of 18 3/4"...probably gonn ahave it tapped for a mossberg side saddle

  • @Jake64676 Yeah Bro!!! You definitely "get it". I'm glad that you got a smooth running S&W shotgun.......because having a good running one is a dream. They just plain ol' ROCK!! And the fact that you've trimmed yours down to 18 3/4" is, in my book, AWESOME!! Sounds to me like you got one bad-ass shotgun, got it for a killer price, and have modified it to allow its true potential to shine. GREAT comment Jake64676!!! Take Care Bro,

    Cheers,

  • i have two s&w shotguns the model 916 and model 916a

  • @MrFakegold How do ya like 'em? Do they shoot well for you? I know our shotguns have crappy reputations but I like mine just fine. How about you?

  • I have a 20 g916a i like it!

  • My dad gave my brother one.

  • @Jake64676 Update: side saddle is attached but not with supplied hardware....just decided to go the easy route and get some ind. strength velcro. The mossberg action seems to closely resemble the smith (at least pin and screw placement). numrich gun parts has an amazing selection of sapre parts for these...also the pump sleeve of a mossberg 500 is little bigger then the sleeve on the smith so with a little shimming i believe you can fit any mossberg pump/ accessory to the smith.

  • I have one, but mine has darker wood with a rubber shock absorber on the end of the stock.I inherited it and it's hasn't been fired for at least 30 years, needless to say its in perfect shape.I have done some reading and it looks like it was prone to failure.I quess I should fire it to see if the thing even works,....lol

  • Go to shotgun liberay go to Google serch.

  • It wasn't actually made by S&W. It was a sub contract. It was such a failure that S&W had considered buying back all the 916's produced.

  • Try Numrich gun parts corp., they look like they have a diagram and parts online

  • Yours looks better than mine. Mine is the Eastfield (also S&W) version with the same sized barrel and a bead site. Mine is also pitted here and there, looks like somebody stripped the bluing and used flat black spraypaint on it. As for aftermarket I grabbed a UTG shotgun light mount and machined it down to use on this, but that's all I can do. ATI doesn't even make anything or know anything on if their parts will fit on there. (might just try some weekend) good luck finding info.
