  • how about the monkey fist without the ball-bearing? Do you simply tie a knot around one end and build it from there?

  • Mobiusi, To tie the Monkey's Fist sans weighted core, just simple leave it out. The knot will be tied the exact same way, only you'll have to spend more time tightening it.

  • When I was in the Marine Corps we made these out of paracord and a smaller ball. We used them as a sap type device when we'd go on liberty call in some of the seedier places in the world like Naples, Philippines, etc. Makes a great self defense weapon that you can just tuck on to your pocket. When done correctly you had the ball bearing/monkey fist on one end a short length of rope (slackline) secured with a 4 or so inch length of rope with a knot on the end for grip/handle

  • @mhynecalie18 take a lighter or heat gun and gently melt (not burn) the cut ends of the rope, this will seal it from unwravelling. Alternativly, cut with a hot knife
