(view in 480p/ not 360p) Through the intimacy and informality of my sketchbooks, I am able to record what it is like to be human at a particular moment, at a specific place, in all of the confluence of time. I often experience the practice of keeping a sketchbook as a spiritual discipline. Through sketching, I try to capture the fleeting and preserve it. I am able to offer surrendered attention to the given moment, as it is lived. This particular sketchbook is from several years ago, when my son was a small boy. He resides among the final pages in gestures. Some of the first pages are self-portraits sketches. (I used chalk pastel on the grey and white, slightly textured, pages of a 9" x 12" pastel sketchbook.)
