The Dixie Fryer is a Merrie Melodies cartoon animated short starring Foghorn Leghorn. Released in 1960, the cartoon is directed by Robert McKimson. The voices were performed by Mel Blanc. Foghorn Leghorn is seen flying south for the winter, though he is not actually flying himself but hitching a ride on a basket that is being pulled by a flock of birds. He then smells magnolia trees and figures that he is in the south, and hops out of the basket using an umbrella as a parachute, while also managing to bring a suitcase that contains a lounging chair and a mint julep. In a tree, two hungry chicken hawks, "Elvis" and Pappy", spot Foghorn Leghorn and announce that they will be having him for dinner. Following a pattern in previous Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoons, Foghorn soon realizes that the chicken hawks are not extending an invitation but want to eat him for dinner. Foghorn tries a series of maneuvers to evade the chicken hawks, including a pistol duel which ends up backfiring on him. Foghorn then leads his predators into a shack containing explosives and shuts the door. The chicken hawks cannot see and Foghorn steps out out of the shack. Then Elvis stick his head out of the shack and asks Foghorn for a match. Foghorn obliges, the shack explodes, and the chicken hawks are blown back into their nest.

  • Please point to my last post where I said there is no racism. Now you skirted the question; you believe there is racism in this cartoon because a) The chicken hawks are brown. (The color they are in Nature. So is Nature racist?) and b) they talk in a slow drawl and come across a tad bit slow (Which is stereotypical of Hollywood portrayals of poor Southerners i.e Beverly Hill Billies and the Andy griffin show) so those shows are racist too?

  • @buttrfly504

Have you ever seen an actual chicken hawk? They happen to be *drumroll please* BROWN! Imagine that they show a pair of brown chicken hawks in a cartoon when they really are brown in real life. No racism to be seen here, move along.

  • @gamewizard i disagree its only a cartoon i does not matter that its not brown

  • Foghorn's from Virginia. Based on the hats them crows wore, that mut be Tennessee

He's in. By tha whay, that was FUCKED up when they called him a Yankee. Virginia was and STILL is part of the south. Don't ever get that twisted

  • @KateMcT That would be 1959 - Bugs Bunny - Backwoods Bunny. And I agree with you, it is hilarious! Look it up, it brings back some of the most beautiful memories. The good old days :)

  • There's a cartoon featuring those two chicken hawks and Bugs Bunny that is absolutely hilarious! I wish I could remember the name of it.

  • I hate when people say that if kids watch looney tunes, they'll grow up all violent. I've watched these my entire life and I'm the least violent person I know. Chill people it's a cartoon!!! Laugh and then laugh some more!

  • I'm from the south and I did not find this the least bit offensive, and this certainly did not make me want to go out and just hit for the hell of it even as a small child. Thank God I grew up in a time where these cartoons were still shown. I'm a 90s kid, born in 1987, we were the last generation that got to see classics such as this.

  • I remember watching this on Beta-max as a kid. Wow I never knew how lucky I was. Cartoons right now are LAME, except for SpongeBob and South Park. I'm also high right now which makes this cartoon so funny.lol

  • There's so much hitting in this video, not a good example for small children

  • Those chicken hawks remind me of niggers.

  • @Malocosa could of said it better myself, i hate people that are just out to blame anything just because their kids did something stupid.
