This course examines artistic contributions as they relate to the history of America. Within this course, we will examine the colonial period and its portraiture, the Revolutionary War and its historical themes, the Federalist period, geographic expansion and the interest in landscape painting. The last week of the course will explore how art reflected the events leading up to the Civil War, including the depiction of everyday life.
Susanna Lombardi is an art historian and professor, having worked in the field for over 25 years. Other endeavors include her position as Associate Director of the Graduate Humanities program at Dominican University, one that she helped establish. She is currently working on a book on the theme of the Annunciation.
