  • Christopher Isherwood depicted Sally Bowles as a girl who couldn't really sing, but did so with gusto, not caring what people thought of her performance.

Jill Haworth was absolutely perfect for the part.

  • I actually saw the original Broadway production. By comparison, I found the movie to be a bitter disappointment. All subtlety was lost for the 'big sell'.

  • Liza blew me away. I was just a babe. The movie was far from subtle. Between that & Lady Sings the Blues, O & then Live & Let Die...

no wonder my barbie threw herself off a cliff...

  • The original and (in my opinion) only version.

  • To anyone who knew her - they know who I am. She is my best friend. A heart of PURE gold. I live on the same block. I walk by her building daily, and, it doesn't get any easier. I'm SO happy I have my memories. I miss her so much. Always, R.

  • @ladypamela2 In 1960s when Paul McCartney was in USA he dated Jill Haworth.

  • What an amazing performance at the age 0f 21, from the lovely English actress, Jill Haworth. Sadly she died in her New York apartment on Jan 2, 2011. RIP, dear Jill

  • I adore Jill Haworth!! I love her voice, wish I had seen her portrayal of Sally :)

  • omg, I LOVE this version. Im auditioning for sally in the fall, and I really hope we go with this arrangement, its amazing. I love jane horrocks, but oy, i thought shed burst a vein singing this song.

  • I saw Jill play the role on Broadway. She was great. For my money she was better than Liza.

  • I positively *LOVE* Jill Hayworth's Sally - her voice and her acting are so distinctive, and totally unlike any of the subsequent Sallys who are either too dark or too flippant. I think Jill's Sally is somehow ALWAYS effortlessly *ENDEARING*, while simultaneously embodying the character's RAUNCHY, *EDGY* qualities without working hard to push it. Hayworth shoves neither Sally's trademark *CHARM* NOR her psychological *ISSUES* in your face, unlike most other Sallys who do one or the other.
