What's the issue with this statement? Yes, it is emotively loaded with the whipping and lynching, but it gets across his point. Anyone who was opposed to unjustified war was told "You're not a true American or patriot". The symbolism of being whipped with the American flag in that context seems feasible. No?

Even if "Van Jones" is not a truth seeker, His resigation is a clear sign that if somebody wants to get higher up in politics, he cannot say anything outside the official version.
