this team was probably 2nd best to Ajax in the early 70's.

Alan Clarke was a predator in front of Goal.I saw Leeds play at Old Trafford in 1972. Ted Macdougall put United ahead early on, and Clarke was never in the match, but then in injury time the ball came to Clarke in the box and he planted it in the back of net.You could not let him get away from you for one second even if he was having a quiet game, because to do so spelt trouble, he would punish any defence.Bremner described Clarke as'sheer class'

For me, Alan Clarke was the greatest footballer of his generation, even better than George Best in my opinion.

WHAT?????

I've been a Leeds fan for many years but to say Clarke was better than George Best...you really are dreaming.

Clarke was a master finisher..lethal in the penalty area, but Besty could do anything he wanted ..never seen a more skilful player..including poser Ronaldo.

I know exactly what you mean and I didn't intend to insult the great George best as I know how brilliant George was. But for me I just had a personal favourite in Alan Clarke and I just adored his football style. George had a different style and of course George was a super player, but alas we all have our favourites. As an avid leeds fan, Clarke was the cream.

Great footage and a super header by Sniffer. I think I've only ever seen and heard the BBC recording of the goal before: David Coleman doing his classic understated "Clarke! One nil." Nice to hear the late Brian Moore getting a bit more worked up!

Was there ever a greater era in football for players with massive sideburns.

"And Allan Clarke has put Leeds ahead!" Brilliant line and gives me goose pimples. I would vote this LeedsGreatest Ever Goal for the reason it was the most important!
