Creating ad hoc wire less network on Ubuntu. You don't need a wireless router to connect to internet. Ubuntu can play the role of router.

Elements that connected are Ubuntu 10.10 , Windows Xp, Apple Ipod , Reliance Broadband Net Connect

  • I created an Ad-hoc network on Laptop 1 running Ubuntu 11 and was able to connect using laptop 2 running Ubuntu 9.04. Is vice versa possible? I'm unable to do so.

  • Nice video..Works perfect

Initially I tried only with my Android device and almost lost hope, but the comment from CyberMageOram helped me as I tried on other laptop :)

  • @TheTrickyj That's because Android doesn't connect to ad-hoc networks without some work. It's not Ubuntu's fault. Google for wpa_supplicant android and you'll see what I mean.

  • I tried all the above steps on my ubuntu i am able to connect to the ad hoc which i created but when I turn on the wi5 on samsung galaxy fit android phone it is not able to search the ad hoc which i created on ma ubuntu :(

  • Wonderful thanks :)!!
