Every woman who thinks she is the only victim of violence has to know that there are many more. One in three women may suffer from abuse and violence in her lifetime. This is an appalling human rights violation, yet it remains one of the invisible and under-recognized pandemics of our time. Violence against women is an appalling human rights violation. But it is not inevitable. We can put a stop to this.

I feel my book is the only way to share my life experiences and story with victims of domestic violence. I believe that it will help convey a sense of how I endured pain and had to keep silent because of cultural and traditional values. Because scars tell a story -- they are there and they are obvious and they speak of the violence that is inflicted upon me but I had to hide them, silence them to save my reputation and my life. I hope to deliver an inspiring story of my vulnerable position caught in the complex web of expatriate society, and its primitive notions of the role of women in marriage.

AUTHOR

Sehra Waheed was born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan. She received her early education at St. Joseph Convent High School in Karachi and The Bayard Rustin High School for the Humanities, New York. Sehra attended the Fashion Institute of Technology College in New York where she studied Interior Design. She is a daughter of a commercial airline pilot and a homemaker. Sehra has two sisters who are also involved in Interiors and Design. Both married with children and currently reside in New York and Texas. Silent Submission is the author's first book.
