@jleeangelo nope. it's been that way since day one. always used synthetic oil, changed it regularly, and some new spark plugs once in a while help a lot. it's all about good maintenance. the governor in mine never worked...it's gone 120+. not going to argue with that. lol
I've also been using synthetic oil since day 1. no sludge problems. the engine is great. i do wish it had a few more horses though. my 0-60 time is about 5.5s, flooring it. thats pretty good. i just wish it had more hp. i guess if i want that i'm gonna have to go for the 3.5 police package. i generally only use police engines: better cooling, more horsepower, more torque, stock 220 amp alternator, tougher. right now...overall, i'm satisfied with my 2.7.
@jleeangelo yes, it is a matter of opinion. everyone has their own taste and that's fine with me. I just think the shifter should be on the column because, in my experience, the driver has to look away from the road to shift. That's not the case with the column mounted shifter. my intrepid has a 2.7 with 117,000 miles and it's still running with no engine problems at all. i did have to replace the alternator, though (demanding stereo system). and my oil pump is going. other than that, it's fine.
@mikeyhh1488 I guess thats a matter of opinion. Although having the shifter by the wheel makes sense for space. I wouldn't buy the car if it was like that in mine as I think it looks ugly. Not to mention I've never seen one with leather seats in it set up that way. I love my intrepid though but would stay away from the 2.7's. I ended up spending about $5000.00 on repairs on that pos and it only had 39,000 when I finally got rid of it. My 03 ES is a dream though, looks like this one but with roof
shifter is in the wrong place. belongs on the column. my intrepid has the column mounted shifter and a front bench seat. it's awesome. that's the way a sedan should be. floor mounted shifters, in my opinion, are a waste of space and inconveniently located. love the intrepid though. mine is now 11 years old and still running strong.

@mikeyhh1488 did you do mods to get it to do 5.5. Usually the 2.7's take 8.5 to 10 secs to hit 60.

my mother in law drives an Intrepid. The windshield is SO distorted it's like being underwater.
