This is my first attempt at a run of Russia in the Game Boy Advance game "Virtual Kasparov". This is the second part of a 2-part video.
Here's a rundown of the game details:
Game #5
------------
Yes, this video only contains this one game; it was the toughest game yet.
When in doubt, play the Modern... That's my motto. The c3 response to the Modern is solid for White, but I think it gives Black a better opportunity to push on the queenside.
No matter who you are, the e6-push in a hypermodern opening has to be frightening. Often, it means that the best course of action is for Black not to take... However, that also often includes the gambit of the f7-pawn (as in the game) which, beyond the paltry cost of the pawn, actually weakens the e6-square itself for a Knight to jump in.
Even after the Queen "hang" from my opponent, the game still proves to be an exercise in logical technique. The key factor is that White f7-pawn, which threatens to promote should I ever leave the back rank unprotected.
After some oscillating with the Queen, I finally determine the correct course of action to coordinate my pieces AND retain control of the back rank. After the rooks leave the board, the win no longer requires strategy.
