Tear down of Evinrude Mate 1.5

A glob of seaweed plugged the water intake and overheated the engine. Compression was down to 42 PSI. After squirting oil into the cylinder the compression went to 180PSI...The rings are shot.

Another question. Should there be a little slack in the needle bearing assembly? I'm trying to decide whether my 6hp needs new components.

@seaotterxxx end play (side to side) slack...yes, but not "up and down" (if that makes any sense)

Did you try to start it before the rebuild?

Just wondering what evidence was there that it needed tearing down ? Thanks

@seaotterxxx  It had (what I thought) was low compression. Turns out that they never had high compression.

I have the same motor ran like a chap till i tried to pull start the motor and it fell in the water.It was under for about 5 seconds, know i can't get the motor started..i got new spark plug gas filter new gas but i can't get it running.I cleaned the carb and i do get a good spark but it still wont start .Can you please help with my problem.

Yes, mine has some slack in the direction the piston moves which it shouldn't.
