"Local firefighters helping teach school kids more about on fire safety.

The Sugar Creek Fire Department visited West Vigo Elementary School on Monday. It's all part of Fire Prevention Week in the United States.

Firefighters use the opportunity to make sure kids know what to do.. in case their home catches fire. "The main thing that we try to teach them is be safe, don't play with fire, the basics about fire safety, know how to stop, drop, and roll, have that escape plan for their house and discuss it with their family," says Sugar Creek Fire Department Assistant Chief Paul Watson.

Two students were also awarded for essays they wrote on fire safety during today's presentations." - WTHITV.com
