Wardell Gray on tenor sax and Buddy DeFranco on clarinet with the rhythm section of Basie on piano, Gus Johnson on drums, Jimmy Lewis on bass and the steady Freddie Green on guitar. This combo [which included Clark Terry on trumpet] would have likely gone on to legendary status if Basie had not opted to re-engineer his big band and further add to his already legendary history in that genre. Anyway, this is a wonderful look at a great group of players that were together for a brief period.
