Tornado belting through Northumberland. Just north of Alnmouth where there's a steady climb up to Longhoughton. It was following 91111 on a bright day with just a bit of haze. We could hear the beat of 60163 miles away. Sorry about the sound quality but the cover had fallen of the mic.
Thanks again to my Mrs for making this.

  • brilliant vid

i was on board and we running great but someone put a slow train infront of us before edinburgh,

i was stunned at how beautiful northumberland is

    thanks

  • How do you get on specials like this..... Pity about the slow run into edinburgh after such a fantastic run. I would have thought NWR would have pulled out all the stops to score some points with Jo Public... they'll never learn.

  • @williamwesterkirk I think this one wasn't that widely advertised. As for Network Rail, I read that they did have someone from their timetabling outfit on board with a laptop and this was the first time since the 60s that steam had priority on the fast tracks up to edinburgh. I guess they just got unlucky with a timetabled slow train.

  • Another great place to view this sight from is right oposite where you were...outside the camp at the layby ;)) see the video from "northumbriarail" where the horses in the field bolt as it passes..a BBC cameraman would have gave his right arm to have captured that !

  • awesome! Sounds like a jet fighter!

  • it was actually a commuter that slowed it down

  • Iam sorry to say that it lost the race due to a slow moving good train that blocked the path...

  • Going like the clappers! Great fun, lovely vid. I was on the platform at King's Cross waving her out - I hope she won!

  • This was a special by the A1 Steam Trust, BBC, Network Rail and National Express East Coast to try and get the fastest Steam run from London to Edinburgh by a steam Loco since the end of BR Steam. As far as I know it only passengers on the VSOE 'Yorkshire Pullman' the previous weekend that were offered tickets (it was originally going to be ECS apart from Clarkson and Co.). Tickets were pricey at £250 each, but I wish I could have gone now!

  • Awesome! How she powered up that grade and I just love the sound of her exhaust. Just about the same speed as the modern traction!!!

    Shame about the mike.

    Your kids had fun!!

    Your missus did great *****
