http://www.ted.com Shame is an unspoken epidemic, the secret behind many forms of broken behavior. Brené Brown, whose earlier talk on vulnerability became a viral hit, explores what can happen when people confront their shame head-on. Her own humor, humanity and vulnerability shine through every word.

TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate

Everyone feels vulnerability and shame, but only the brave speak about it. She's right, most people still see admitting our inner truth as a sign of weakness. I've always been extremely willing to lay it all out there in raw fashion, bluntly stating my emotions and fears without filters. Some people scoff, others run away... but people I've never met have written to thank me for being that example of authentic emotional honesty. It made their own inner horrors suddenly seem OK. Freedom.

I'm dealing with the end of a great love because our history is so complex that i couldn't pretend to not need to foster awareness of vulnerability and sensitivity to that history. I wanted to create a map of the landmines in our dialogue and be open to communicating our highs and our lows and to work on it together!

my vulnerability to this situation was not attractive to her, she wanted a blank page, not a map; she wanted a perfect me, not an open, yearning, flawed me. I will make my own path.

My family criticizes me all the time for not meeting up to their ridiculous expectations. I can't take it anymore.

she's half right about vulnerability - it's precisely because it means allowing ourselves to show weakness that it's such a sign of strength and courage.

Ok I know this is irrelevant but if you turn on captions at 17:14 the meaning of what the man said to her literally changes.
