Trucks crash because they are commercial vehicles.
Commercial vehicles seek to maximum profits by reducing costs.
Trucking tire costs are about 1/10 that of cars, that is achieved by using low grip / high mileage compounds. (and reusing the carcass multiple times)
People crash because: they are not responsible. They have a right to drive (unlike the privilege of commercial vehicle operation) but are not upholding their end.
Not checking tire pressure, tread depth, summer tires in winter, etc.

OMG! i just can't believe what I just saw in this video...over a dozen autos, trucks...i have never seen so many accidents in so little time frame.....scary shit!!
-
and holding a cup of coffee while driving is still no safe... (AND BTW, WHO HOLDS A CUP OF COFFEE, ITS CALLED A CUPHOLDER.)

I think of all the times I've driven in weather like this from the Dakotas to Minnesota, Wi, Ia, Il, Ky, Mi, In, Oh in my sales job over the years, seeing cars and semis crash, driving with white knuckles for endless miles thinking "Oh God please let me get out of this safely".
And the million times I thought; "Thank You God for not letting me get killed today" when I finally reached my destination.
No matter how many times you do it, or experienced you are, it's always the First time.

"I thought to take a camera while driving in and after some storms in Iowa. There is never a shortage of idiots when it comes to winter driving."
Now....what part of recording while driving disqualifies you from the 'idiot' category?

I used to live in omaha, and i've gone to des moines countless times, and one time was in a winter storm....most of these crashes are becuz of the bad weather, and wind....not cuz of other cars...i've seen people just got blown off the road literally by wind

@hawkeyefreddy No Kidding, I don't know how many times that we've (my hubby and I) almost creamed someone from that very senario! People in a hurry to pass the "slow" truck, then slow down when they get passed and are now in front of you, causing you to have to brake, that's when things can get SCARY!!
-
I would NOT want to pay the towing bills for the trucks. OUCH! That's one hefty bill to get towed off the interstate.
-
This is caused by jack knifing. And when the trailer loses traction on the road the truck driver cannot do anything except hope for the best. He cant even slow down because the momentum will destroy the 5th wheel and detach the trailer.

HOPE FOR THE BEST ......
BUT TRAIN FOR THE WORST !!!!!!
Lets drive safe ...ALL OF US !

I'll be the one to say it, THANKS! I am a trucker myself, as long as your being safe, which it sounds as though you are, keep recording. It lets everyone know what to expect out there. My guess is some of the nasty comments you have gotten are from 4 wheelers not us truckers! Good Luck.

Curtis....I know that most of these accidents are due to the autos these guys encounter on the road. They don't know that when you pull in front of a big rig and slow down, a crash is inevitable in these conditions. I really had no purpose for shooting this video other than I didn't think anyone would believe how bad this section of I-80 in Iowa is. It was never meant to show anyone as being dumb but alot have taken it wrong. Thanks for your comment.

you are obviously still not looking at the road it's scary to think that you work on the highway....you should know better then!

Hey sunshine, you're definitely not the sharpest knife in the drawer, are you? I told you I was not looking at or through my camera. I was holding it in front of me and turning my hand as I watched the road. No different than holding coffee.

All I have to say is that it's dumb asses like you that go out and record this stuff and slow down to look at this stuff that end up in the ditches!!!! I have lived in Iowa my whole life off of I-80...this is how it always is in the winter! I hope I never run into you on the Interstate, or that anyone else does for that matter! Put the camera down and DRIVE!

The camera is held below my chin and I "shoot from the hip" so to speak. I don't have my eye in the viewfinder. It would be more dangerous to dial a phone number while driving but thanks for your concern Slamnchica :) I work on the highway and my job takes me between Des Moines and the Quad Cities.
