I started on French horn in 6th grade, but then switched to a "cooler" instrument as I knew jazz was the thing. But if I had heard Gio wail with his horn... my life course would have been very different. Way cool, Giovanni and crew!

@jjmm47 i know the feeling. just started playing horn/trumpet in jazz band this year. i prefer to play the fourth trumpet part on horn if the first trombone is low....or i'll just pop the bone part up. sounds good with a lot of chord structures.

Hah, i did the exact opposite. i'm our schools first horn, and i picked up jazz horn/trumpet so i could be in jazz band. and yeah, i've knowticed that if you swap from trumpet to horn either your going to be really good, or really bad. there is generaly no in-between lol.

Duuuude, I'm a horn player who switched from trumpet and I've gotten complements by a professional on my ability to switch from dark to light tone. Who says a trumpet can't play horn well?
I'm only a sophomore in high school too.
French horn is my passion. I love it. <3
Psssh, who says French horns can't play jazz? This is great!

Perhaps you should've read his comment. He said, "You have to really dedicate yourself to get this good and get a scholarship."
You can't just say "I'm going to get good."
If you play the horn to get a scholarship then chances are it won't work out. You should play the horn because you love the instrument, you love the sound, the music. Any other reason and it's likely you won't get far with it.
