When the Spanish conquered the Dominican Republic, and Haiti. They brought African
Slaves with them, and they had also enslaved some of the indigenous people as well. I learned in 2011 that Tainos existed. I was shocked. I was lied to my entire life until last year. I would recommend the book titled: Before the Mayflower. It gives a detailed history of the African Slave trade in that 400 year period. Spain had once ruled a very large part of the Western Hemisphere.

and many of us may be mixed, but where does that give you the right to say "these people have no idea what they;re talking about?" Many Tainos acknowledge that they have other blood in them, but should that keep them from upholding the traditions and culture of a very strong and interesting part of themselves? I don't think so. No one can tell us that we cannot or should not embrace that part of ourselves, whether we are 1 or 100 percent Taino.

Many Tainos still uphold traditions from ancestral times. If you're going to make such a strong argument, do some research before making yourself sound like an idiot and an asshole. And clearly you are basing my mothers "african features" off of her darker skin color because you cannot see her facial features in the video, which I can promise you, are extremely Taino.

shoegazer300, the woman in the white dress is my mother, Valerie Vargas. All I have to say to you is you are an ignorant piece of shit. Do some research before making such an idiotic comment basing the Taino existence on one trip you took to the capitol of the DR years ago. We have an established culture, language, etc. If you want to see my people, go to the mountains, the rural parts of the DR and Puerto Rico, and you will find them. We are still VERY much alive and thriving.

Natives just wants official apology from the government acknowledging that the Americas had world's biggest genocide (and stop using the term Settlers), be compensated, respect their sacred sites and to seriously get their reservation cleaned up. How do government expect people living in the reserve make money when there is no economy to start with. And Stop using the term Drunk Lazy Natives. Who brought the alcohol? The White People. Peace!
-
@Shoegazer3000, I've never been to the Dominican republic but one thing I can say is that truthfully, almost all the Natives in the Americas are mixed due to the European genocidal colonialism. Remember, the Natives took in White and Black babies and raised them as one of them unlike the Europeans who looked at the Natives as lower cast. This lady is probably a proud Dominican who most likely has Native blood too. Black genes are strong you know. ;) Cheers!

the bronx?
where else would this ignorant crap get traction?
sad, stupid people who have no clue who their fathers are, but "know" the ancestry of millions of others...really sad to think of the feeble minds who will actually believe this circus act.

@Shoegazer3000 Please go tell that to most Eastern Tribal Members in the USA who have some mix with Europeans and Africans. Native American does not mean pure anything. They come in all colors. The Dominican Republic has 12 million people did you meet all of them? The DNA studies say that 20 % are of indigenous baclground. They are not denying anything but the Native contribution is denied by goverment and academia until recently when more studies shed light on this matter.
These people have no idea what they're talking about. Indians from the Dominican Republic? I visited Santo Domingo in 1992 and I saw no indians there. What a joke. That lady in the white dress has clear African features. What's wrong with just being black or mulatto? Are they ashamed to admit that they actually have more Spanish and African blood than anything else? How sad and pathetic. Be proud of who you are now, not what 1 distant relative of yours was 400 plus years ago.
