@vladiator100 agreed. in their first fight Ali really was in a different league than Liston and it clearly showed, in my opinion it's the best prime Ali fight. Ali's speed in that fight was astonishing.Oh and you should watch a documentary called "Facing Ali", in it George Foreman says that Liston was fighting only for money when he faced Ali for the second time and because of their first fight he knew he couldn't win so he took a dive right away.
@2ty1234 All the mafia themes are Speculations, speculations will be speculations. The punch clearly landed and hurt him, Liston might not have been hurt enough to be KO'd but he knew Ali was out of his league. Either way Ali clearly made the baddest man on earth look ordinary in their first fight. Liston was so frustrated he just quit in the 7th.
I saw boxers get punches 10 times stronger than that one and get ktfo but getting up though, there are two possibilities 1 the fight was fake 2 liston sucks.
Yes the punch is real and enough to momentarily stun Liston, but that is all. No chance of a K.O. from that punch for any heavywieght, even Fraudley Harrison.
He fell down from the punch, then he decided it would be a good reason to STAY DOWN!!!
Ali did not hit that hard and if he did, why didn't he knock out anyone else with one punch, if that punch was so effective on a monster like Liston?? Can you really argue with that? Yes, because people want to worship Ali. However Ali knew nothing about Liston's faking, but he kind of suspected it when he rolled over like a baby!!! Someone should have put a big dummy in Liston's mouth and called mummy..
@triballistic Liston didnt quit. Nat Fleischer jumped in the ring and convinced the ref to call the fight due to the time Liston was on the ground making it a technical KO. hence why the fight went to Ali.
Problem was the fight should've continued because Ali never went back to his corner making however long Liston was down completely irrelevant. And the fight should've kept going.
Liston could continue but he chose to quit because he knew the inevitable outcome would be a whooping. So he quit early, relatively unhurt, collected his purse and went to mull and sulk over a bottle of the finest bourbon. I would have done the same, Life.

the thing is...even if the "connecting" punch was forceful...it looked like he was beginning his dive before the connection...

@NyyGyro Liston might have taken a dive because he could've bet against himself and he owed mafia a great deal of money at the time
