  • I can't believe it, I never saw Goodman singing, but he's got a nice voice!

  • @edwardconway27 - Yeah, not bad at all - got a 78 rpm record with him singing from the same time period. Someone else posted it to youtube: look up Benny Goodman Gotta Be This Or That.

  • anyone know the name of the music at the beginning of this clip?

  • @moonfaeriemagick That's Goodman's theme song, "Let's Dance".

Most bands of that era had a theme song, one song for which that particular band was best known. A band would play a clip of their theme song at the beginning of radio shows & live performances as their way of saying "HELLO!" to the audience.

Glenn Miller's theme song was "Moonlight Serenade"; Artie Shaw's was "Nightmare"; Tommy Dorsey's was "I'm Gettin' Sentimental Over You".

  • actually pretty wierd all these white folks playing black music.

  • @ptwob

That's right, you post your videos of YOUR multi-national jazz band which you're leading, and show us how a jazz band is Supposed To Look :-)

  • I think he sounds just like Johnny Mercer. I thought at first his voice was overdubbed by him.

  • ...Now you know why Mr. Goodman passed into history as a clarinetist and not a vocalist !!!!!!!!!!! :-) Okay , okay , he has a more " challanged " singing voice , in a way like rock-era singers rather than the smooth style characteristic of 1940s pop singere...But nevermindthat , I just wanna know...Did he and Herb Alpert ever record vocal duets ? :-)

  • @Atticus70 im just sick of being called back to this video these 9 months

  • @ptwob I'm not offended at all and had no intention to start a race discussion. It's just not black music and that's pretty obvious if you know the music of this era. Sorry if there was a misunderstanding.

  • @Atticus70 leave me alone! its a 8 months old comment, i was going through a cab calloway phase. this is getting way to racey for me anyway, i feel the people who are offended by my comment have some issues with race themselves.

  • @ptwob This is most certainly not black music. Music made by black musicians from this period sounds entirely different.

  • Band coming through, get the fuck out of the way people.

  • "actually pretty wierd all these white folks playing black music." "[M]ankind is one.[...] [S]tuff about different races and your kind and my kind, that's bullshit. [I]t's a bunch of shit. That's what it is. And jazz is gold, platinum, diamond." -- James Moody

  • some of those chickies look pretty fucking good
