    Carrey would improvise with the extras to try and get them to speak so they would receive a pay increase. Not to just see what they would do. If an extra ends up speaking and the Director likes it enough to keep it, the extra gets a significant pay increase. Ex. The extra from Being John Malkovich that threw an empty beer can at Malkovich's head and yelled, "Think fast!". Director loved it, kept it, guy made millions.
