Very nice tank!! I tried looking on BigAl's for your type of background but couldn't find it. Do you know what the brand of the 3d background is?? thnks.

@jdssurf Thanks! I agree about the goldfish and they have since been removed along with the Gold Barbs. the Gold Barbs were just too "franic" and would dash around crazily...not the atmosphere I was after. The lighting is from two 36" Marineland Dual Bright LED lights (suspended on picture hanging wire).

looks nice, what type of lighting? Not sure how long the goldfish should be in it though.

how many backgrounds did you have to buy because i looked on big als and the only ones they have are 15"x 23"

@413murdermass The Underwater Treasures ones I used are 18h x 24w, so three filled up the entire 72" back wall nicely...there are small gaps between the panels that tall plants or driftwood can be used to hide.

Hey diezeled, they are "Marina" brand 3D backgrounds. I was just on Big Al's and did a search on 3D Backgrounds and it was one of the choices. Thanks for viewing and for your question.

BEAUTIFUL tank! So natural. The lighting gives a shimmer effect not seen in most freshwater aquariums. You said that you bought the 3D background. I assume you attached it to the back glass. Does this type of background have a place for heaters, filter intakes, etc?

@MrTeacherDude Thanks for the compliments! Yes, it is attached to the back glass with fish safe silicone sealant. I was considering covering at least one end of the tank glass with the faux stone background as well but, to answer your question, no, it does not allow for heaters, etc., so I have the hoses for the Fluval FX5 and my heaters attached to both end panels of the tank glass. The background is foam so it could be cut out for heaters but then the yellowy foam need painted, etc.

Im gonna have to look in to those lights, they give a wavy look through the water kind of like a salt tanks with bigger lighting. Are they expensive?
jdssurf 11 months ago
@jdssurf Well, I didn't think they were expensive, I got them from Drs. Foster & Smith on sale. The ones I have aren't reef capable but their product item # CD-73768, etc., are.
Mine also have "moonlight blue" LEDs and operate with a three-position switch but only one corded plug so it's not possible to control them with a timer...other than only on and off. I also have the discharge to my FX-5 close to the surface.
