This is a very nice example of an edison amberola 30! I very much like all antique phonographs. Its amazing how wonderful something so simple can sound. Even though my edison standards are even older than this, my standard b being made around 1905 and my standard D being made around 1909, they still sound surprisingly good and clear.

It's wonderful & gratifying to see & hear your beautiful machine in working order. Billy Murray, the Denver Nightingale, was a pioneer recording artist. Cylinder discs ran into competition when flat phonograph records were introduced. And when records were made electrically with microphones in the mid-20's, the cylinder format was eventually phased out.

These cylinders (Edison Blue Amberol) was the last commercial cylinders produced, they were produced from 1912 until Edison Records stopped production in 1929. The cylinders was from 1915 dubbed from discs, in 1928 they started to dub the cylinders electrically.

This was a recurrent theme on records of the acoustic era--the guy who leaves his small town for the big city, and eventually comes back home. Billy Murray's delivery is fantastic!
