Funny you mention that, because Israel does tell the U.S. how to run its affairs and we generally listen because of the strength of their lobby group. That being said, Hagel is perfect for the job because his allegiance is to America and not to a foreign power. Does the U.S. negotiate with el-Qaida? I don't think so and just saw an article in which a White House spokesman stated that they do not. More importantly, do you think it would appropriate if Israel, or any country, told the U.S. who to negotiate with? We do negotiate with terrorist groups. This isn't a conspiracy or anything either. It's common practice. Do a google search to get articles on our negotiations between U.S. and Taliban. Peace has always come through negotiation. The Philippines government finally signed a peace agreement with rebels they've been at war with for 40+ years. It came through talks; it always does. Are you this dumb or just a Fox News parrot incapable of forming his own opinion?
