The Tyrrell P34 in this video is similar to the one driven by Patrick Depailler. The car has been restored and is maintained by RM Motorsports in Wixom, MI. Even though this car could be an accurate static museum piece, it is MUCH more ...this is a fully functional and competitive car that is being actively raced at vintage racing events.

The video was shot on location at the extensive RM Motorsports facility. http://www.rmmotorsports.com

The Tyrrell P34 (Project 34) was originally built for the 1976 Formula One season. Conceived by Tyrrell's chief designer Derek Gardner. It is one of the most recognizable race car designs of all time due to it's unusual 6 wheels. The 4 front tires were specially made by Goodyear and mount on small 10 inch wheels. The design intent was to reduce frontal area with the smaller tires, therefore reducing drag.

Tyrrell team mates Jody Scheckter and Patrick Depailler put in a respectable 1976 season with their P34's, with one win and several high place finishes. Goodyear's failure to continually develop the small front tires, eventually made the car uncompetitive.

  • is it still in MI ??

  • @ProfessorIgor - most of the year it has been in MI at RM Motorsports, who maintain, prep and provide race support services for the car owner (who doesn't live in MI).

  • @foxkart61 it would be ridiculously awesome to see this epic car at the Kohler Intl. Vintage Challenge at Road America in July.. the Historic Formula 1 fields are usually excellent.. I would love to see this car in person for once in my life !

  • @ProfessorIgor - I know that event is on RM Motorsports schedule... but don't know if the owner (Rudy Junco) of the P34 Tyrrell is will be running it at the event.

  • i was 6 years when i saw this one and since that day i am infected with F1 virus. This machine was sort of a UFO for me as a 6year old! Unfortunately i sincerely hope to see this one IRL one day because i haven't. To touch this car or being so close for me it is like touching the original cross Jesus was pinned too or something! I enjoyed this close up from this one very very much!

    cheers from Holland [steven]

  • Maybe the greatest of all F1 cars ever!

  • What a beautiful, iconic car. But if they race it, where do they get the tires now?

  • Get it over to The Silverstone classic for 2012... last year they had another P34 really racing!

  • Stunticon "Drag Strip"! :D

  • WAS IT ANYGOOD THEN?

  • Hey thanks for putting this up! That car is in such a pristine condition, probably in better shape than any '70s Tyrrell!

I'm wondering by the way which chassis number this is.

Is it P34/7? Can you tell me? Thanks again :)

  • That is awesome. Thanks for posting!

  • @foxkart61 can we bribe him ???? LOL
