What happens to a circus elephant when its time to retire? After 16 years in the spotlight, Flora, an African elephant living in St. Louis, must find a new home, and David, the circus producer who has cared for her all these years, must say goodbye. The road to Floras retirement, however, is a difficult and emotional one as the bond between man and elephant is tested in unexpected ways. Ten years in the making, this touching, thought-provoking film deftly investigates the problems and mysteries posed by keeping wild animals in captivity while never losing sight of the delicate love story at its heart.

  • I just watched this. And I agree - Banning the use of wild animals in circuses is our next step in humaneness. This opened my eyes. I am grateful to all those who are made this documentary possible.

  • Stop trying to make the Circus appear to treat the animals nicely: Elephants do not belong in circuses. Circuses do not care about elephants; they care about how much money the elephants can make them. BAN THE CIRCUSES THAT USE WILD ANIMALS

  • I saw the program this morning and I think they should not treat these animals this way!!

  • ban using elephants in any circus, this elephant was not very lucky

  • kiwikimmyd , learn more before you make a comment. David and Laura are wonderful caring people. They are at the top of my list of favorite clients, miss working for them a lot. Be confident that they always have Flora's best interest at heart.

  • What do elephants like Flora do when they outlive their Davids? Get her somewhere safe now.

It's hard to place one elephant. What's going to happen to all those elephants Ringling is being allowed to breed in unlimited numbers at their "sanctuary"? Ringling's days are numbered. The tide is turning against them. It make take 10, 20, 30 years. But they'll be gone. And where will all the elephants go for the remaining 50 years of their life? The USDA sucks for not monitoring this better.

  • David..I beg you to do the right thing...send her back...at least to a sanctuary...

  • Saw this today, was interesting.

Would of liked more from the end.

  • He should take her home with him:=)

  • Super I worked alongside Flora in America and have super memories of in off season riding horses in the forests around Davids ranch with a young Flora in tow running through the trees - and of working in a circus show when backstage before the show David and Flora LEANED against each other and had a doze
