The melody was originally composed by Johann Friedrich Glück. Electrola is holding the copyright for this arrangement. The lyrics are based on the poem "Das zerbrochene Ringlein" by Joseph von Eichendorff. Professor Walter A. Aue did a nice translation of the poem, which can be found at:

Thanks for sharing this, Professor!
Unlike the well-known arrangement from Friedrich Silcher, the Comedian Harmonists' version contains only three of the five verses. Here is an extract of Prof. Aue's translation with only the verses contained in this recording (which is also available as subtitles via the rightmost button below the video):
"Down there in verdant meadows,
a mill wheel turns around.
My true love's turned to shadows
whom at the mill I found.
Gave me a ring as token
of love forever true;
her promise she has broken,
the ringlet rent in two.
Hear I the mill wheel sighing?
I don't know what to will.
I will that I was dying,
then everything were still."

Wow, was für ein unglaublicher Bass!

@noobhunter3000 Vielen Dank!

So beautiful and moving...I could hear the sadness in the music and voices even before I read the translation. Thanks to you both for sharing your wonderful talents.
