Sublime!!!

This man was kind, friendly & generous with his time. He had a legato that no other basso commanded. I must have seen him scores of operas - he never let us down & was always a class act!
-
Rest in Peace Mr. Tozzi. Your singing leaves me breathless!

I never stop marvelling at all the tossers who comment on YouTube. These are old recordings, how the hell do you mean to say which voice is bigger, and does it matter?! The only way you can safely say which is the "bigger" voice, is putting them on stage next to one another, and have them sing to you LIVE!! Every recording is different, every studio, every microphone, every technician, it's impossible to say! Siepi is Glorious, but so is Tozzi!!

@SuperDarchangel idiot

@SuperDarchangel Yes, Siepi has the more compelling natural voice, one of the wonders of operatic history, but Tozzi makes SO much more of the words, dynamics, and phrasing than Siepi in this aria.

@SuperDarchangel Guess what? I performed with both these singers On-Broadway in New York in1979. I played percussion in the pit for Giorgio in Most Happy Fella and Carmelina with Cesare Siepi. I remember looking up from the pit hearing that BIG voice. It was like an organ note...so big, wide, smooth....what a voice indeed. But his voice was better than the show. it closed within a week. But we all liked it! Alas....so goes Broadway. John-Hans Melcher

Nice phrasing, but little voice- good for a cantante but nothing more.
Siepi has a much more brilliant voice as you can hear here on yt.

A friend and I were just listening to Tozzi and he remarked on the beautiful lyrical quality of his bass voice. What marvelous and sensitive singing.

I wish someone would share Tozzi's incomparable Ferrando's Aria from the IL TROVATORE recording with Tebaldi and Del Monaco; it is the best ever. Tozzi is my favorite bass, and one of my favorite singers of all time; there is something about the timbre of his voice that just gets to me on a deep level.
BRAVO, Giorgio Tozzi!

bellissima romanza e bellissima voce... anche se l'interpretazione di cesare siepi è molto molto commovente
