Thread the Needle

Lesson Type: Intermediate

Prerequisites: Basic Butterfly Spinning, forwards and reverse butterfly

Alternative Naming: TTN

In this tutorial, I'll be teaching you how to do Thread the Needle, the big brother of The Butterfly that will bring you far more confidence with butterfly moves, because you're far less likely to collide the poi doing Thread the Needle than The Butterfly, plus it looks cooler and most know it's more advanced.

Timing is everything with this move, you've got to draw back one arm and push the other forwards during the window of oppurtunity, but I talk about that in the video.

If you're having troubles, ask a question or post a video response of yourself trying it and I'll help you out.

Oh yeah, and I'm sorry about the messed up order of these videos, I keep forgetting about moves I should teach, and doing them later. I'm just going to do all the moves, and then sort out the lesson order later.

Enjoy,

  • you're such a sweetheart:))and a cutie.

  • Aw, you're making me blush.

  • oh man, i can't seem to get the outward butterfly thread the needle. Any tips?? I've been watching your tutorial but don't seem to get it.. keep getting tangled. Should i focus on pulling the bottom on back or focus on the top one going forward?

  • If you're doing the outwards (aka reverse) butterfly ttn, then the hand underneath should be going forwards while you pull to the top one back. Maybe that's where you're going wrong? Let me know how you go...

  • Great tutorial! I was having the most trouble trying to figure out how this works! Now I get it. Thank you!!!

  • Yeah, it's a weird one, that's for sure, but once you get the timing, it clicks and it'll stay with you. TTN makes regular butterfly pretty obsolete in my opinion, as you're far less likely to hit the poi together, and it looks better too.

  • I finally learned how to do it but my poi keep smacking each other; sometimes it's the chain and sometimes it's the balls. Any tips?

  • thank you so much reverse was so hard but i got it XD

  • I've been trying to understand exactly what is happening in this move for a few days but I figured it out from your video! Thanks so much :) I was probably making this one a lot harder than it shoulda been lol. My advice to everyone is really understand what is happening. You are basically switching the hand thats dominantly on top with the other and like he says .. just feel it. It helped me to slow the roations down a whole lot and really watch whats happening (or supposed to happen)

  • l knew right from the start u were goin to hit that. ur fascinating-i need more

  • Sexy much, sir? Indeed.

Thanks for the tutorial, I'm researching how to teach, not necessarily how to do, but this was enjoyable nonetheless. :) Just keep spinning, just keep spinning, just keep spinning, spinning, spinning...
