  • As if these people (exp Ezra) cared about human's rights of a chinaman... If you hate China just say it straight, not reffering to your human rights argument...

  • It is so funny the host is trying to bash china at every opportunity he can.

  • "Kissinger is not a China specialist" LOL

  • @PrometheanRunGood You said that very well, and I agree, but let me remind you westerners specialy america always use this concept as their Aim is divide chinese people is good for all western world becouse if this argument influence some chinese student or chinese economist or scholer who teach chinese student will create liberal and hardline people that's not good for chinese people but all chinese people are smart enough paying attention this plot.

  • @Scientisticsoviet You would be right in thinking I wasn't making that case. I abhor the waste and devastation caused by Mao and I am a bigger fan of pragmatism than almost everyone I know, but it seems wrong to me personally to give China's success story, an idealogical spin of Deng versus Mao. Success versus Failure.

  • @PrometheanRunGood I think your point is well taken. Economic growth was already high before Deng, albeit with more variance due to economic dependence on agriculture.

Still, it is difficult to argue that none of Deng's reforms were useful in contributing to further economic expansion. But then again I don't think you are really making that case anyways.

  • It had rudimentary universal health that increase life expectancy from the low 40's to the high 60's, it had a functioning state system that was capable of doing the will of the central government, it had detonated a hydrogen bomb and built a 7000 km ICBM.

This is the infrastructure on which Deng implemented a policy change and that was all it was, a policy change.

  • Western admirers of China would like to see Deng as the sole contribute to China's success going into the 21st century, but this is a ideologically blinded position to take. It was Mao who unified the country and brought it into the modern world. Deng took over power from 76-78' by that point China has already achieved so much.
