A recent Thread on the Bethesda Fallout Forum, asked how would you make it...

So here is a quick cobbled together mock-up that shows [loosely] how I would have handled an aimed shot in a direct sequel. The RPG aspect would have been
more or less the same, but with a rotating camera, and CGI heads.
[But only for principle characters.]

Seeing the current state of the Troika tech-demo comments elsewhere on this site, I must painfully disclaim that...
This ain't Fallout 3.

  • was that brotherhood soldier mesh stolen from down of war? i swear it looks exactly the same....

  • @tristanscharp

this is not video of a game, is a concept video of gameplay. Most of this was pulled from Fallout 2 and Dawn of War; The rest was done in Flash8.

  • Now make Van Buren as indie

  • @CombineHgrunt

I won't have to. There are guys taking it apart, and actively converting the 3d assets. It will be neat to see what comes of it.

(Personally, I wasn't looking forward to Van-Buren, though some aspects looked really neat.)

  • I don't see whats the big argument (unless I missed something in the previous comments) but whats done is done Fallout 1 and 2 didn't have VATS Fallout 3 and NV did simple as that. No one screwed it up, it just had to be adjusted. Bethesda intended to make an action RPG, because that's what they're good at.

  • @LucasimoTheGreat

Perhaps you missed plenty... There is no big argument other than what you just said.

(FO1&2 did not have VATS, but many seem to think it did.)

I would say they did screw it up though (now that you mention it). See in the entire series (and Tactics), aimed shots cost you, and cost more for the better potential of a harder to hit target. In FO3 VATS is just a free shot(s) button, and the percentages only reflect proximity to the target; Action or Turnbased is irrelevant here.

  • If only this wasen´t fantasy...

  • Are we actually arguing about VATS here?

Guys FO3 is an Action RPG, and the previous 2 are regular Western RPG's.

The fact that FO3 is an Action game ultimately changes the way the game has to operate.

I don't have to explain why VATS and Aimed Shot are appropriate for their games do I?

  • lol the voice at the end was taken from a Tom and Jerry cartoon XD

  • @GizmoJunk what is the website for that project? i want to play vanburen

  • @MrMuffinManatee

    Had to comment huh? LOL

Seriously, you must not have read much about this clip. I made this in less than an hour as a concept visualization. It pre-dates Fallout 3.

No one (including myself) wanted a 2D FO2 clone; however... But the base concepts for this are still what I'd have expected of an appropriate sequel, and the aiming feature as well.

Search Youtube for "Troika Tech Demo", and see a 4 minute clip of a game with more Fallout atmosphere and appeal than FO3 ever had.

  • @ZhadoxFlamez Yeah, well Ok, maybe a little.... :-) But still, no original story ,which is the most important.... And why the AP,if it doesn't matter if you use them or not... All these skills don't have as much effect on game like they did... I still say, ok it's action RPG, with very little RPG elements...

  • @Pavke101

    Well let's see.

You've got HP, AP, VATS/Aimed Shot, Limb Condition, Armor, Weapons, Item Condition, Weight, Buffs, Debuffs, S.P.E.C.I.A.L, Primary stats, Derived Stats, Skills, Abilities/Perks, Inventory, several endings, behavioral based concepts, levels, level scaling, world map, quests, and lore.

  • @ZhadoxFlamez I don't think that FO3 is RPG.... Action - yes, FPS - yes, but I did not see many RPG elements in FO3....

  • @GizmoJunk Aww :c

I would have loved it to play, the stamina aspect was quite nice to think of
