2009 Hyundai Elantra FAIL! Hyundai, it's time to live up to your warranty promise! This video documents the problem of my transmission slipping into over drive on its own when I drive for at least 1 1/2 to 2 hours. This started after the service dept. at Hyundai of White Plains, NY did a 30,000 mile service on the car. Been to two different Hyundai dealer service departments and both of them spent a day with the car and insist they can't find the problem. Going to White Plains Hyundai for the third time. This car was purchased new from the dealer and is under warranty. Anyone else have a problem like this with their Hyundai?

  • jaretkady, they managed to fix the problem after several trips to the Hyundai dealership in White Plains. They didn't charge me anything for it. They didn't tell me what the issue was exactly and since they didn't charge me, I didn't get into it with them. I was just happy to finally have the problem solved.

  • It looks as if the lockup torque converter is going in and out, and is more than likely a solenoid or electrical issue.

  • @bbishoppcm Thanks! I brought the car back into Hyundai of White Plains for a third look. They tried to drive it long enough to duplicate the problem they said they did not see it. But they said they made some adjustments and that it "will not happen again." I have since made another long trip (5 hours) and the problem did not occur, so that's good. However, I did not turn on the cruise control because this problem always seems to start after using the cruise control. Anyway, so far so good.

  • my Hyundai Accent rental car did that too when I was goin to GA. It kinda freaked me out so I turned the cruise control off. But on the way back, it didn't do it..sooooo idk...but I don't appreciate hearing negative comments on here about how Korean cars suck. I know for a fact that imports are a heck of a lot better & more reliable than American cars FOR SURE!! I just got an 03 Hyundai Elantra & I LOVE IT!!!

  • The older Hyundai with the 4 speed auto suck the Newer Hyundai that comes with the 6speed auto is very reliable.

  • Yea, that is an electrical issue with the transmission. The cruise on these cars gives its input the exact same way a driver does, so it cannot be that as a "cause." It is likely a pressure control selenoid (or the like).

  • Were you going up hill? I know with my current car a 2000 Mitsubishi galant, going up steep hills aka mountains it won't let u go above 50mph unless u were going higher speed before u hit the incline. I know when I tried using the cruise control going up a hill my car did the same thing urs is doing because cruise wants it at what I had it set at but the cars computer knows that it's in mountain mode so it lowers down to 50

  • typical korean build quality
